Not all of Las Vegas's sport happens in giant arenas. One of the most relaxed nights out in the valley is a Triple-A baseball game, where the Pacific Coast League brings professional baseball one step below the major leagues to Nevada.
How Triple-A fits in
Triple-A is the highest level of minor league baseball in the United States. Teams at this level are affiliated with major league clubs, and their rosters mix rising prospects with experienced players working their way back to the majors. That makes for a fluid, interesting game: the player you watch one week may be called up the next. The Pacific Coast League is one of the leagues at this level, with teams spread across the western United States.
The Las Vegas Aviators and their ballpark
The Las Vegas Aviators play their home games at Las Vegas Ballpark in Downtown Summerlin, west of the city. The ballpark opened in April 2019, was designed by HOK and has 8,196 seats. Its scale is part of its appeal: compared with an NFL stadium or a Strip arena, it is easy to reach your seat, easy to move around and easy to bring a family.
A timeline for your evening
- Afternoon: keep it indoors or in the shade — summer highs in Las Vegas average around 104.5 °F in July.
- Before first pitch: arrive with time to find parking or your rideshare drop-off and settle in. Check the team's official site for gate times.
- During the game: drink water regularly, as the ballpark is open-air. Our guide to beating the desert heat has more.
- After the game: Summerlin is a drive from the Strip, so plan your ride back in advance. See Getting Around the Strip.
Pair it with a day out
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area lies about 15 miles west of Las Vegas, in the same direction as Summerlin. A morning on its 13-mile scenic drive and an evening at the ballpark make a good day away from the casinos. See Days Out Off the Strip and Game Day in Las Vegas for more.
