Visitors arrive in Las Vegas from all over the world, and many of them treat a big night out like a problem to solve: how much time, how far, which seat, which day. You do not need a graphing calculator for this, but a little arithmetic before you go makes the evening smoother. Here is how to run the numbers.

Time: work backward from curtain

Start with the published start time on the venue's own site and work backward. Add time for security and bag checks, time to find your section, and a buffer for crowds. Then add travel time from your hotel. Strip resorts look close together, but walking between them takes longer than most people expect, so read getting around the Strip before you decide to walk.

Distance: know the fixed figures

A few numbers are worth knowing. The Las Vegas Monorail runs 3.9 miles with seven stations, from the Sahara at the north end to the MGM Grand at the south end. Harry Reid International Airport is about five miles south of downtown. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area sits about 15 miles west, with a 13-mile one-way scenic drive. Those figures help you estimate how a day out fits around an evening show.

Capacity: how big is the room?

Venue size shapes the experience. The Smith Center's Reynolds Hall has 2,050 seats; The Colosseum at Caesars Palace seats about 4,100; Dolby Live holds up to 6,400; Sphere seats 17,600; and Allegiant Stadium has 65,000 seats for NFL games. A bigger room usually means more variation between good and poor sightlines, which is why reading the seat map matters.

Heat: the number that overrides the rest

The average July high is about 104.5 °F, and the record of 120 °F was set on July 7, 2024, while the city gets only about 4.2 inches of rain a year. In summer, shift outdoor walking to the evening and carry water. Our desert heat guide has more.

Tickets: the one sum not to shortcut

Helios Club does not sell or resell tickets and takes no bookings. A deal that looks too good on an unofficial site rarely adds up. Buy from the venue's box office or the official outlet it names, and see buying show tickets safely.
